La r\u00e9serve fait partie de la r\u00e9serve de biosph\u00e8re La Amistad, inscrite \u00e0 l\u2019UNESCO, et sert de zone tampon pour le parc national de Barbilla. La perte de cette zone ne d\u00e9truirait pas seulement une for\u00eat primaire irrempla\u00e7able, mais compromettrait aussi un projet de reforestation r\u00e9cemment achev\u00e9 \u00e0 La s\u00e9curisation de la parcelle emp\u00eache la fragmentation d\u2019une zone tampon, prot\u00e8ge les territoires d\u2019esp\u00e8ces \u00e0 grand rayon d\u2019action, soutient la r\u00e9gulation de l\u2019eau ainsi que le contr\u00f4le de l\u2019\u00e9rosion, et renforce un bilan de 15 ans de conservation de la for\u00eat tropicale dans la r\u00e9gion. De plus, montrer aux populations locales les avantages de la conservation par rapport \u00e0 l\u2019exploitation foresti\u00e8re pour l\u2019ensemble de la communaut\u00e9 devrait motiver d\u2019autres propri\u00e9taires fonciers \u00e0 rejoindre \u00e9galement nos efforts de conservation.
