Some twenty years ago the coral reefs in the bay of Samara Beach at the Pacifc Coast of Costa Rica were severely damaged because of intense forestry in the coastal hills. Big mudflows covered the reefs with sediments and clouded the waters, leaving the corals to die. A local group of marine biologists and scuba divers are restoring the coral reefs by harvesteing young corals and succesfully replanting them on the reefs. With our donation we are helping the local association with their great work.
This amount has been used for the purchade of scientific equipment and kayaks to bring out the divers in the bay
Have donated the initial amount of 5000 euro that was doubled by us
In the period of 2024-2025 the local association will harvest and plant some 855 new coral colonies back on the reef
The coral reefs of Sámara Beach in Guanacaste had the greatest crisis of high mortality due to sedimentation and marine pollution. Given this, coral gardening is implemented with the aim of returning to the community the ecosystem benefits that coral reefs provide and assessing their social impact at the community level. As the project recovers the ecosystem benefits of the coral, the positive impact on the community will increase.
